The Birth of a Dragon

Session 2 - The Sleeve

Session 2 kicked off on Thursday, June 1st, 2006 at 3:00 in the afternoon. A full 3 weeks since the first sitting. It was originally scheduled for the previous day, but there were some complications with the stencil. All the scales were drawn into the stencil, and we just couldn't get it positioned well. All the scales made it really busy, and Paul was having quite the time trying to make everything out. He asked me to come back the next day so that he could redo the drawing without the scales so that we could get this beast put on. No problem.

When I got back, the stencil was ready for me, and we got to work. It was still a big pain in the butt getting it on. Ultimately, we got most of it on, and Paul just freehanded the rest. It took 2 hours to get everything drawn in and ready to ink. It certainly wasn't easy. The way everything lined up was OK, but Paul thought it would look better to extend the tail past the elbow some. Originally drawn as a half-sleeve, he asked me if that would be OK. I told him that he could take it all the way to my wrist if he wanted to! :)

We got going with the needle, and I knew that once we started, we couldn't stop until it was done. There would be no way to get everything lined back up if we did stop mid-stream. That was OK with me because I was excited to get it done.

Session 2 was quite the marathon! I was in the shop for 7 and a half hours. Two hours of that was drawing time, and the other 5 and a half were under the needle. We were still going after the shop had closed.

The pictures were taken the following morning after I removed the bandages and took a shower. Except for the last one, which was taken after it had healed (right before session 3).
